As-salaam ‘alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu.

It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you of the departure of our beloved leader and friend, Altaf Ali as Executive Director of CAIR-South Florida.

Brother Altaf has decided to leave his position as Executive Director for personal reasons. He has accepted employment outside of Florida for the benefit of his family. We wish him the best in his new endeavor and pray that Allah, most gracious, continue to bless him and his family.

With Brother Altaf’s departure we are left with large shoes to fill. As we all know, Altaf Ali was not only a great leader within our South Florida community, but he was also a good friend to many of us. He was someone who could unite the hearts of people of different faiths and ideologies. Altaf also did his best to make sure that our South Florida Muslim community was represented and accounted for in all situations. CAIR-South Florida will sorely miss his presence and leadership.

But as we all know, Allah is the best of planners. With that, CAIR-South Florida must and will move forward to continue to do the work that Altaf so graciously led us in. We have recently hired a wonderful sister to run our office for day-to-day purposes as we look for our new Executive Director. The search for a new Executive Director will take time and our Executive Committee will do its best to find the right person for the job.

Finally, we pray that Allah continue to guide us and help us in our work to strengthen the South Florida Muslim community in order to be a beacon of honesty, truth, and justice for all people. We hope that your support for CAIR-South Florida will remain strong. There is no doubt that Brother Altaf would want us to carry on the work that he has left behind.
